The initial, and ongoing training and development of our team is of extreme importance to K9 Patrol. As well as specialist training specific to the role, we actively promote Health and Safety and First Aid at Work training.
At K9 Patrol we recognise the attributes of our dogs. All our training is based around the dog’s natural abilities and on positive reinforcements to develop their natural behaviour.
During training we encourage the nose, ears and eyes – by using a natural guarding breed we can also develop the natural guarding instinct. We also develop the natural pray and play drives of the dogs in a controlled manner.
One of the main instinctive behaviours we work on is their need to please the pack leader, in our case their handler. Through praise and reward our dogs are driven to just that. Our handlers have an extremely strong bond with their dogs and all live with their handlers and families, this helps to produce a well balanced working dog
At K9 Patrol we pride ourselves in the continuous development of our handlers through comprehensive training and ensuring we are up to date with all the industry changes. We attend continuous training sessions with South Yorkshire Police at their training grounds with handlers qualified (or working towards) the NASDU level 2 or equivalent.
Self Defence Training
At K9 patrol we realise that the better trained our staff are, the better the quality of our service. We are advocates of training in Self Defence, which can be provided by Pierre Mahon at the Kao Loi Gym (pronounced Cow Loy) in Harrogate, an extremely reputable company that we not only respect but support through our company sponsorship programme.
Pierre gives ongoing training in simple effective techniques that can provide operatives extra confidence when in the field. He is a level 3 Self Defence instructor, has a level 4 UKCC Certificate in Tutoring, and is an Assistant Master of Muay Thai with 20 years experience.
The Kao Loi Gym in Harrogate runs excellent Self Defence courses for the general public as well as high quality training in the sport of Thai Boxing.
