Sky joined us when she was 8 weeks old back in October last year. Lee was working with Sky on a daily basis to develop her core skills in readiness for her GP training when she reached the right age. Sky was progressing well and possessed a really good nature. Lee had high hopes for Sky until she started displaying signs of pain. Sadly several weeks ago Sky was diagnosed with ‘Elbow Displaysia’ a condition that causes severe pain and effects mobility. Disappointment and sadness was felt at the realisation that Sky was never going to be a ‘Working Dog’. The options for Sky were limited; a costly operation which may only have short terms effects or to find her a ‘forever home’. The concern with finding her a new home was ‘who would be prepared to take on a dog with potentially high vets bills for the rest of her life?’ The only other option would have been the horrible decision of having to put her to sleep.
Vets4Pets were fantastic exploring options to avoid the latter happening. It wasn’t long before an elderly couple from Yorkshire who’d recently lost their German Shepherd came forward and expressed an interest. Her recent diagnosis was not a concern to them. Lee took Sky over to meet with them, (and their cats!!). In no time at all Sky was making herself at home. Many of the couple’s family came to meet her, and as dog lovers themselves they all fell in love with her immediately. Lee agreed to leave her there for the night and come back for her in the morning. Lee didn’t need to go back!! Sky’s new ‘forever home’ had been found and with such a lovely family. Whilst we are all saddened to see Sky go, especially Lee, we all know she’ll be happy and well cared for for the rest of her life. All the best Sky, from all at K9 Patrol. xx
